Capacity is often treated as a moving target. More can always be asked. More can always be delivered. People will “figure it out.” Until they can’t. The Problem with Assumed Capacity In many organizations, capacity is invisible. Work is added without removing anything else. Timelines are set without understanding the full load. Expectations increase without adjusting support. And because people continue to deliver, at least temporarily, the assumption is that capacity exists.
